travel for pride month

June is officially LGBTQ+ Pride Month, so the celebrations are already underway! In fact, in our home borough of Brooklyn, New York, Pride Week has just started! But if you were planning to travel for Pride, don't worry that you're too late to make plans. Fortunately, Pride is more than a month in a year, especially if you're thinking about traveling internationally.

Pride celebrations take place year-round all over the world in lots of incredible travel destinations. So, if you're traveling for Pride, why not consider extending your stay in a place you've never seen before?  It’s a one-of-a-kind chance to truly immerse in a destination while connecting with LGBTQ+ communities around the globe.

Huckleberry Travel is not only a gay-owned travel business, we're also ASTA Verified Travel Advisors, and members of the International Gay and Lesbian Travel Association (IGLTA). So, if you're looking to have your best Pride yet, we can help you plan an incredibly fun trip. Here are just a few ideas we have for Pride travel, year-round:

Cape Town Pride in South Africa happens in late February when a lot of us are sick of winter, but South Africans bask in the late-summer warmth. Why not spend an extra week in the country to visit Kruger National Park, where you'll find prides of lions instead of pride parades. South Africa openly embraces LGBTQ+ visitors. In fact, it became the fifth country in the world to legalize marriage equality, way back in 2006.

With Iceland's soar in popularity recently, Reykjavik Pride, held this year from August 7-12, is a great opportunity to explore the land of fire and ice. With low-cost airlines on the route, it's less expensive than ever to get there, and it's super easy, too--a flight from New York to Reykjavik is shorter than a flight from New York to LA!

For some extra Latin pasión this Pride season, check out Buenos Aires Gay Pride (Marcha del Orgullo), held on November 10. There are lots of great ways to add on to this Pride celebration. How about Iguazu Falls, on the border of Argentina and Brazil? Maybe take a short boat ride to Uruguay for some amazing beach time? Exploring the wine country? Or, maybe you'd like to go hiking in Patagonia? With so much to see and do, you'll want to really make the most of it.

Some major pride events around the world happen in July, including Berlin, London, Munich, Stockholm and Budapest. In Berlin, their pride celebration is known as Christopher Street Day (even though Christopher Street--the site of the Stonewall Riots that started it all--is in New York City. But we've got some really fantastic options for Europe in the Summer, and it's not too late to plan your summer vacation for 2018. (We know, because we're doing just that for several clients right now!)

Or, if you're thinking of a longer trip-of-a-lifetime, Sydney’s pride festival is known as Mardi Gras, and it takes place in March. You've got plenty of time to plan a longer trip to see more of the Land Down Under, as part of a pride celebration. The Great Barrier Reef, and the Outback are waiting for you!

If you're looking for inspiration, check out the really incredible Pride Calendar that our friends at the IGLTA have put together. And then, when you find the celebration that most appeals to you, let us know, and we'll start to build a trip for you!

Go for the pride. Stay for the destination. And we can get you there!
