visit africa like a royal

If you're up early today to watch the Royal Wedding, you might have heard, as part of the color commentary, that Harry and Meghan's third date was a safari to Botswana, where they slept under the stars. If you've not yet been to Africa, you might not realize how incredibly romantic it can be. Apparently, they slept under the stars!

Well, Botswana is a fabulous destination for any traveler who wants to experience Africa. It's got amazing, varied ecosystems for safaris--from the Kalahari Desert to the Okavango Delta to Chobe National Park--you can have a variety of safari experiences in the same trip. And, since it's so close to Victoria Falls, it's easy to build that into your trip, as well.

Last year, we sent clients on a fantastic itinerary from one of our preferred travel providers. They had a great time, so if you're interested, here's the run-down!

Day 2 Johannesburg–Central Kalahari Game Reserve, Botswana
Today, fly to the CENTRAL KALAHARI GAME RESERVE (via Maun), the largest game reserve in southern Africa, to start your safari adventure. The Kalahari is a desert climate with a strong population of permanent game, including gemsbok, springbok, cheetah, and leopard. During the summer rains, between December and April, the desert comes alive, and vast numbers of plains game migrate to the area to feed on the short grasses. Enjoy an AFTERNOON GAME DRIVE, keeping a lookout for the rare brown hyena and the famed black-maned Kalahari lion.

Day 3 Central Kalahari
Explore the area further during your MORNING GAME DRIVE. This afternoon, enjoy a short GAME DRIVE and a GUIDED WALK with SAN BUSHMEN to learn about their fascinating culture, survival and hunting skills, and their vast knowledge of the desert’s animal and plant life.
