what the heck is wave season?

Until we got into the travel business, we'd never heard of "Wave Season" before. (Maybe you're more savvy than we were.) But now that we're tapped into the wide range of resources and tools that travel agents can access, we're all about "Wave Season." Here's why!

Wave Season is the time of year (basically the first three months of any calendar year) where cruise lines line up a series of big, huge, even gigantic, sales and promotions. If you're an avid cruiser, January to March is the time to book. If you've never been on a cruise before, booking a trip now is definitely the best time to dip your toe in the water. So to speak.

What do these cruise deals look like? Many cruise lines slash their prices during Wave Season. You'll find generally lower fares, across-the-board. Sometimes, cruise lines lower the deposits to reserve space on their cruises. We've seen reduced deposits as low as $1 (though that's extremely rare). And plenty of Wave Season deals include on-board credits that you can use for drinks, upgraded specialty dining, spa treatments (free hot stone massage!!) or anything else that might not already be included in your package.

Keep in mind that cruises are an incredible value to start with. If you like all-inclusive resort vacations, how about a contemporary cruise line where your meals (and maybe your booze) is included, but your resort travels from one exciting destination to the next. Or, if you like an upgraded experience, how about a premium cruise, where you're essentially on a floating boutique hotel? Or, if you prefer a luxury travel experience, it'd a lot more affordable to book an immersive and inclusive itinerary on a cruise, where even your business class air travel might be included in your cruise fare, than to book high-end hotels and air travel separately; plus, your suite on the cruise ship might even come with an actual butler!

Huckleberry Travel has preferred relationships with pretty much all of the cruise lines that are out there, and we've got access to each and every Wave Season promotion. On top of that, we have some exclusive amenities on many sailings, which aren't available directly from the big on-line websites, or even from the cruise line, directly.

A luxury yacht trip on a ship with actual tall sails. A balcony vista of the Alaskan Glaciers, that you can't see from land. A fun party at sea, with a slammin' DJ and free-flowing drinks. A chance to traverse the locks of the Panama Canal. Comparing and contrasting the different cultures of different Caribbean islands. A family trip where the kids have loads of fun activities to keep them occupied. A small-ship journey through the intercoastal waterway of the eastern seaboard. A foodie cruise with James Beard or Michelin-starred chefs on board.
