travel books to gift for the holidays

We've already suggested some of our favorite travel-related gifts (with links on how you can buy them), but if you've got any avid readers on your list, here are a few books that you could easily give as gifts. And, of course, if you're interested in giving them an actual vacation, well, just slip a gift certificate for one of Huckleberry Travel's cruises, tours, independent itineraries or resort vacations into the jacket of one of these reads. That way, they'll have something fun to unwrap!

Atlas Obscura: An Explorer's Guide to the World's Hidden Wonders
$21.00
By Joshua Foer, Dylan Thuras, Ella Morton

Atlas Obscura is one of our favorite internet reads. The website has all sorts of quirky information about places around the world with interesting and unusual back-stories. If you know someone who's adventurous, who really likes to explore those destinations that are off-the-beaten-path, this'd be a great book for them. And, if you wanted to step up your gift-giving game, why not also give them the gift of adventure travel by including one of our small-group adventure itineraries from G Adventures! G Adventures has very flexible deposit policies, so it's the perfect way to give travel, without locking them into a plan that can't be changed, later.

We love the Big Island of Hawai'i. There's so much to see and do, and with a rental car, you'll definitely want a solid guidebook to help you explore. On our last trip to Hawai'i, a friend recommended this book, and it was absolutely indispensable. Upon arrival, we drove from Kona Airport around the southern tip of the island to get to Volcano National Park for our first night's stay. Along the way, one of us drove, and the other played tour guide as we learned about the history and geography of the places we passed. And we also got some great tips of where to stop off for a plate lunch. And, of course, if you're thinking of presenting someone with a trip to Hawai'i this year, we can easily work up a phenomenal itinerary with our preferred specialists for all things Hawai'i, Blue Sky Tours. The book is great, but the trip that goes along with it is even better!

If there's one thing we've learned from starting this business, it's that people love to indulge their pop culture obsessions when they travel. If you're a Harry Potter fan, you no doubt already have a pristine box set of all of the books. But you might not have the script for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, (Parts One and Two). So, why not wrap this up for your favorite Harry Potter fan, with an itinerary to Universal Orlando tucked inside? Universal Orlando is one of Huckleberry Travels preferred travel providers, and we can put together an awesome vacation for your family to go to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Or, perhaps you'd prefer to go to London to see the show in the West End. Or, maybe you were lucky enough to score tickets to see it on Broadway this year? We can put together travel plans for you to any of those destinations (and save you time, trouble and money in the process!).

The Beach
$13.60
By Alex Garland

If you want to give someone a window into Thailand, that'll make them want to jet off there immediately, this sly page-turner about a secret community of ex-pats living on an island in Southeast Asia. It'd be a great read for your favorite armchair traveler, but if you were to include a custom itinerary for them to experience it in real life, how awesome would that be? As the book says, “If I’d learned one thing from traveling, it was that the way to get things done was to go ahead and do them. Don’t talk about going to Borneo. Book a ticket, get a visa, pack a bag, and it just happens.” Huckleberry Travel can do the work for you--just let us know!

In a Sunburned Country
$12.31
By Bill Bryson

We're fairly desperate to go back to Australia, and this book, by one of the best travel writers out there, only makes that desperation seem more acute. In a Sunburned Country chronicles a journey through Australia from east to west, through tiny little mining towns, forgotten coastal cities, and off-the-beaten-path forests. The book also touches upon how truly incredible and slightly terrifying the wildlife of Australia is. If you want to spark someone's interest in visiting Australia, this'd be the book to do that. And, if you want to go a little further and give them the trip-of-a-lifetime to explore Australia, well, we're happy to pull something together that would go along with the book!

Or, maybe you've already got a favorite travel book that you're planning to share with a loved one this holiday season. If that book is feeding your wanderlust, we're always ready to plan an incredible trip for you. You don't have to pay us any upfront service fees to get us going--we'll use our industry relationships to make sure you're getting the best deal and the best experiences.

Want to take an incredible trip? Huckleberry Travel can put together the trip of a lifetime that includes tons of unique experiences you might otherwise miss.  Contact us for more information about our travel consultation services.
