I am overwhelmed and humbled that so many of you are interested in helping me celebrate my milestone birthday in Vegas this coming February. We've done some planning and here are some of the details!
We've moved the host hotel from the Elara to Planet Hollywood for a couple of reasons. First off--the Elara is more expensive--even with the group discount--than Planet Hollywood. Secondly, Elara would not allow us to book at a discounted rate, unless it was sold as a package with air travel. Since some folks are traveling on miles, are driving, or are booking their own air, and since it was a lot more expensive, it just seemed like the Elara wasn't the best option. So, we're now focusing on Planet Hollywood, which is right near the Elara (if you still want to stay there, we can try to book it outside of our group rate. The current rates we have at Planet Hollywood are discounted up to 25% until June 19, and we'll have some other amenities, as well!
Of course, if you'd prefer to stay elsewhere, we can book you into another nearby hotel or resort. Through our partner, Funjet, we can bundle a hotel stay with airfare and activities to find a good rate. And if you want to make your own arrangements completely, that's totally fine, as well.
Planet Hollywood is located at the Center Strip, and is connected to the Miracle Mile Shopping Center. Nearby casino hotels include: Paris, The Cosmopolitan, Bellagio, Bally's, Aria, Vdara, Caesar's Palace, Flamingo, and The Cromwell. We also especially recommend The Linq, which was recently renovated, is very affordable, and is one of our favorite Casinos.
Please note that this weekend will be Super Bowl weekend, so while we're finding good rates at properties right now, as we get closer to the date, availability might tighten. If and when you're ready to book the trip, give us a call at (646) 926-4087, or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org, and we can price out an itinerary with different options for you to consider.
At this point, venues for most of our events are still TBD, based on how many of our "definite maybe" guests turn into "I'll see you there" guests. Tom and David will be in Vegas beginning on Thursday the 1st, and will depart on Monday the 5th. You can join us for as much or as little of the weekend as you like.
Here's the run-down of the planned events (details still developing):
- Friday evening: Informal Happy Hour at the Elara. Meet up with the rest of the crowd, re-connect with old friends, meet a few new friends, and plot a plan for a fun evening!
- Saturday a.m.: Gaming Lessons. If you've always wanted to learn a table game, we recommend pai gow poker as a great way to lose your money sloooowly. Or, learn how to place a sports book bet, just in time for the Super Bowl.
- Saturday evening: Birthday Cocktail Party followed by Birthday Dinner. Venue TBD.
- Sunday a.m.: Buffet Brunch at The Wicked Spoon (or other venue, depending on capacity).
- Sunday afternoon/evening: Super Bowl Party! For those who are departing on Monday, what better place to watch the Super Bowl than in Las Vegas?
OTHER THINGS TO DO
Headliner Concerts. The last time we were in Vegas, Elton John, Cher, Jennifer Lopez, Ricky Martin and Diana Ross were all performing at one Casino or another. The time before, we got tickets to see Britney. The performance schedules for February haven't been released yet, but we'll keep this page updated, so check back, here.
Cirque du Soleil. There are about eleven thousand different Cirque du Soleil shows in Vegas, and each of them is different from the next. The one thing they have in common is that they're a lot of fun.
Tours in the Area. Some of the discounted hotels we can book for you are currently running a promotion with 2-for-1 Grand Canyon or Hoover Dam Bus tours, or 2-for-1 Vegas Strip Helicopter tours. But we can also find day trips for you to Death Valley or Bryce Canyon, or, for an outdoor trip just outside the city, we can arrange a hiking or multi-sport trip to nearby Red Rock Canyon.
Other Attractions. We really loved the Neon Museum (sometimes called the Neon Graveyard), where old Las Vegas signage is on display at eye level. On our last trip, we did the Marvel Avengers Experience, and toured Wayne Newton's estate. Or, maybe ride a roller coaster or do a virtual reality ride. There's lots to do on the strip that doesn't involve gambling in a casino.
KEEP US POSTED
We're happy to book your trip through Huckleberry Travel (and we think we can probably get you a good deal), but if you'd prefer to book something on your own, please keep us updated on your status, so that we can have a reasonably accurate headcount for some of our events and activities.
Thanks so much for joining us in Vegas. This is going to be the best birthday ever!
